Biography
I was born on June 3, 1986. I started learning to play piano by ear
when I was 10, and I started playing trumpet in band when I was 12. I
started learning to read music shortly after I started piano, from
private lessons. As a result, I've always believed in and maintained a
healthy balance of playing by ear and from notation. Since then, I've
tried many different types of instruments, and especially enjoy
playing all brass instruments. I learned a bit of music theory from my
piano teacher, and much more from my high school band director. I
started composing and arranging (using Finale Notepad) in 11th grade.
My band director, Mr. Paul Ramsey, always arranged the music for our
marching shows, which inspired me to want to do the same in the
future. My first arrangement was Koji Kondo's Super Mario Bros. Main
Theme for marching band, which my director let us play in the stands.
Listening to it now, I realize that it was a rough arrangement, but
getting to hear it encouraged me to keep writing. I've come a long way
since then in my knowledge and skill level, but I still love arranging
video game music. My favorite soundtracks are Chrono Trigger and
Earthbound. I'm also a big fan of the music of the Final Fantasy
series.
I'm currently a music education major at Jacksonville State University
in Jacksonville, Alabama. I play trumpet in the jazz band and brass
quintet, horn in the symphonic band, and mellophone in the Marching
Southerners. I plan to be a band director when I graduate.
