Biography

Online, his name is lastdreams. In real life, his name is Thomas. He is a thirteen-year-old eigth grader at Hopkins Jr. High School in Fremont, CA.

Ever since an early age, Thomas has been greatly interested in music. He began piano lessons at the age of seven, in which he was classically trained for three years. (He played Czerny, Beyer, Bach, Burgmuller, and other old "classics" that he greatly detested) He quit three years after he started and delved instead into composition instead. (He took classes for these too, but quit those because he was too lazy to do his theory homework).

Thomas then followed the philosophy that with the right influences and a good ear, one could write music not from theory, but from ear, basing the music on how it sounds as opposed to its theoretical correctness. One may wonder; who could have given Thomas such an absurd idea? Danny Elfman.

His first arrangements were based on MIDI files from Kingdom Hearts, on which he early "Waltz of the Damned" and "Sinister Sundown" are from. However, he finally figured that this was cheating and decided instead to turn to using a tuner. ("Sunset Horizons" was transcribed for piano using a Korg tuner).

That was cheating too.

In fall of 2007, Thomas joined the Chrono Trigger Piano Collections project at Square Enix Music Forums and submitted his arrangement of "Sealed Door." His arrangement of this atmospheric theme was influenced greatly by contemporary composers including Ligeti, Prokofiev, Elfman, Bartok, and his online idols Luke Nickel and Nick Werner. Although no one really listened to it, he felt it was his first real arrangement, not merely a transcription, and that made him happy enough.

He aspires to be a scientist of some sort when he grows up, if not a musician.
