SquareSound News and Site Updates

New Fan Arrangement Archive - 1000+ Music Sheets, MP3s, and MIDIs!

Our vast fan arrangement section has long been a mainstay of SquareSound. Countless musicians have worked very hard to create the wide range of excellent sheet music, midis, and mp3 arrangements found on this site. And while, countless visitors have downloaded and enjoyed these arrangements for the last five years, there has been no way for users to interact with the arrangers -- share their suggestions, offer critiques, or give a simple word of thanks. Likewise, many arrangers have selflessly contributed their works to this site without ever knowing if people enjoy them, appreciate them, or even download them at all. All of this, along with many other things about our arrangement archive is about to change.

Since the site's massive redesign in July, 2006, I've been trying to think of ways to enhance our arrangement section. Sure, adding new arrangements is a wonderful thing, but I wanted to make changes that would not only benefit the visitors, but the musicians as well. So, for the last 4-5 months, I've been hard at work implementing a new arrangement archive, and now that the work is finally completed, I hope you'll be as excited about it as I am.

The new archive offers the following features:

  • The ability to search for arrangements by title, author, format, etc.

  • The ability to sort arrangements by various criteria

  • The ability to see the instruments required to play the arrangement before downloading it
  • The ability to post ratings of arrangements

  • The ability to post comments/reviews about arrangements

  • The ability to track newest arrangements on our homepage and via RSS feeds

  • The ability to track the number of times arrangements are downloaded

  • The ability to view the most popular and highest-rated arrangements

  • And Much More!

It is my belief that this new system will be a tremendous leap forward from our old, static system. Users will be able to quickly and easily find the arrangements for their instrument(s) of choice, discern which arrangements are the most popular, and offer comments to the arrangers. Meanwhile, the musicians will see tangible evidence of how well-received their arrangements are, and read compliments, suggestions, and criticisms of their pieces.

Also, as a way of saying a special thank you to our most active and prominent arrangers, we'll soon be implementing a "Featured Arranger" section to the site. Featured Arrangers will be given their own page(s) on the site, with pictures, biographies, links to their work, blogs, and much more. We already have several arrangers lined up to be featured, and hope to add many more in time. Look for this new section to be up within the next couple of months.

Finally, we couldn't very well announce a new arrangement section without new arrangements right? Well, thanks to the generous contributions of several very talented and committed musicians, we've literally doubled the amount of arrangements we have available for download on this site. As of today, we have just over 1,000 pieces of free sheet music, MP3s, and midis from the Final Fantasy series, the Kingdom Hearts series, and many other Square Enix games. We've also completely opened up submissions to allow MP3 arrangements and remixes, and now accept arrangements from absolutely any video game -- whether it's still in circulation or not. Basically, if you've composed or arranged a piece of original music from any video game, we'd love to post it for you here. With your help, it is our goal to make SquareSound the largest and most prominent site available for video game arrangements!

So what are you waiting for? Check out our new archive today! Download a few pieces, listen to them, print them out, post your ratings and comments, and be sure to come to our forums and let us know what you think!
