After being born in Japan from a Japanese father and half-American, half-italian mother, Angela Aki had an extremely mixed heritage. Following an impressive show of musical talent at a young age, she started learning the classical piano at the age of five, but also learned to play various other instruments, including the violin and guitar.
At the age of 15, she moved away from Japan to go and live in Hawaii, where she won a scholarship from her high school. She went on from there to release an Indie album in 2004, which she sung completely in English. Afterwards, she moved to Washington D.C. to study International Affairs, Economics and Music.
Her next venture into the music industry happened in 2005 when she released another Indie Album, which this time was sung in Japanese. It reached number two in the charts, and it is rumoured that this is what made Nobuo Uematsu select her to sing the theme song to the game Final Fantasy XII: “Kiss Me Good-bye.”
