Before the year 2000, little was known about Koda Kumi. But it was in this year that she became a professional singer and released her first single called “Take Back.” She later released this single in the United States and didn’t look back from there.
Her follow-up single entitled “Trust Your Love” held a respectable position in Billboard Magazine’s Top 100, which lead to her first album release: “Affection.” The album features remixes by Hex Hector and Jonathan Peters.
It was not until 2003 that she became a household name among video game music fans when she was asked to perform the Japanese versions of 1,000 no Kotoba (1,000 Words) and Real Emotion for Final Fantasy X-2. Although neither of these versions were featured in the English version of the game, her talent was still widely recognised.
Koda Kumi also performed with Korean singer BoA for a tribute album produced by Tetsuya Komuro. It was dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. The song they performed was entitled “Meaning Of Peace.”
