Biography
Written by Ronin
Naoshi Mizuta was born in Kochi, Japan, coincidentally the same place that Nobuo Uematsu was born. So maybe it was fate that saw him eventually working for Square alongside the man who put the music that accompanies Square music on the map. However, their music styles are quite different so the comparison does stop there.
While he was studying Law & Economics at the University of Chiba though, the last profession he expected to be in was that of a composer. He only really started composing in his final years at the University afterall. However, in 1995 Naoshi joined Capcom's music department and worked on some of the music for Street Fighter Zero before joining Square in 1998.
When he joined though, a lot of work was given to him at the start, and a lot of pressure too. His first job was to compose the music to Parasite Eve II, so he would have to try and out do the famed Yoko Shimomura. For this, he created a lot of his own music, but also brought back some of the original Parasite Eve music.
His next big project though, would put his face on the map. His next project was to compose the music for Final Fantasy XI alongside Kumi Tanioka and Nobuo Uematsu. However, Naoshi would be composing the largest amount of music in this project and the same would be true for the expansion pack Original Soundtracks too.
