Biography
Written by Ronin
Having gained a traditional education, Shiro Hamaguchi joined the University of Arts in Tokyo (which Masashi Hamauzu also graduated from). Then, after graduating in 1994, he became the director of operations for a project given to him by Victor Entertainment. Two years later, he left Victor Entertainment to join IMAGINES.
IMAGINES was founded in 1986 by Yuji Saito and is a company that employs 9 people to do various things in the field of music. It was from this company that he was first called on by Square, or indeed Nobuo Uematsu, to do some orchestration on a few pieces of music from the Final Fantasy 7 Original Soundtrack. This was no big issue, because if Nobuo had not been happy with, they would just not release the album. Shiro however, did a fantastic job and Nobuo was impressed with the final results.
Following this success, he then did a few more projects for IMAGINES, when Nobuo asked for his services again. This time his task was to orchestrate the principle track from Final Fantasy VIII; Eyes on Me.
Due to the success of his partnership with Nobuo on the original soundtracks and arranged albums that they have worked on together, Shiro Hamaguchi has quite an influence at Square Enix now. He is currently said to be working on the FFXII Theme song, that is being composed by Nobuo Uematsu as well as working with Hitoshi Sakimoto on the main score.
