You can use The GIMP to create signs, web banners, computer wallpapers, forum signatures, avatars, icon buttons, etc. The GIMP can even be used to make animations. (There is also an Animation Plug-in package available.) The GIMP has extensive filter, screens, modules, brushes, layer contexts, and tools to help you create awsome effects for your project. Another significant advantage to having GIMP is that it's customizable. You can import your own brushes and patterns, rearrange the toolbox to your likings, and even create your own templates.

Q: What if there's a glitch or bug, or what if The GIMP becomes outdated by new versions of other image programs?

Very interesting topic. I was looking into this program... I'm use to Photoshop, but I'd rather not spend so much money on it. As i understand it, this is very similar to Photoshop. I'm interested to learn more about it.

The thread is obviously still a work in progress, but I'm going to try to get some tutorials up soon, and add a little more to the faq section. I'm currently working on a new tutorial. The only problem with a couple of my old tutorials is that the new version of GIMP has a different script-fu set up, so they would have to be altered a little. (Although I'm planning on telling how to do it in the new version.)
