We could perhaps do an overall VG Arrangement competition, so the contestants have free choice over what they wish to arrange.

Haven't quite read through all the posts yet, but sounds like a good idea. If only I had the time (and resources and know how) to enter myself... since I originally joined SSF out of my love of Square music.

umm, what exactly is all of this? can someone explain it to me? b/c i finished arrangement projects of sonic the hedgehog 2, and super mario rpg with a friend.

is this like picking a game to arrange all the songs for?

Every once in a while, Square Sound holds an arrangement competition. A few people will enter and submit their arrangements, and they'll be examined by a set of judges. Basically this thread is just outlining a few idea's of what people want to have the competition based around (instruments, games etc.)

how about tales of symphonia, or sonic 3 and knuckles, or paper mario 1,2, or super paper mario. or maybe Super Smash Bros Melee.

I remember there being a contest between which song was the greast FF song of all time going on a while back.

Another idea is having some folks post up art related to specific games, pieces of music, or something else entirely and having the community vote. The images could be PM linked so the authors wouldn't be known and we can reveal authors after the contest is over.

Just an idea.

So it'd be like an art contest of all forms? Drawings, paintings, music, etc related to a game?

I hate to sound generic, but I think the competition should stay along the lines of something more heard-of, like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts. I'm thinking lesser-known games such as Sonic or Paper Mario would hinder the popularity or interest in the competition, since most people haven't really heard the music from those games nor have as much interest in them as the latter ones. You want something that'll reach a wide audience, and Final Fantasy is something that is capable of doing just that.

As to which Final Fantasy, I'm thinking one arrangement from any of the FF installments.
