I love the idea of a composition contest! Cause whilst I have a new found love of arranging pieces I enjoy, nothing beats the satisfaction of creating your own completely original piece.

Providing of course it IS completely original and you havn't accidentally ripped off the Stargate Atlantis theme because your friend was playing it in the next room and the melody got stuck in your head.......

Composition contest sounds like a brilliant idea! Composing for a scene sounds difficult but hey it's definitely original and would produce some really interesting results

I don't recall if it was here, or on Gamingforce, but years ago they did a competition where someone came up a with a fake game scenario. They provided a list of characters, scenes, and overall plot points, then the competitors were asked to pick 3 or 4 from the list of about 12 options to write. It tested the composers ability to create themes and then weave them together. It was one of the coolest competition concepts I've participated in.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I find composing more fun than arranging so I'm fully up for that kind of thing. Composition contest ftw.
