Actually, marching band is quite easy. There are usually 3 parts - an energetic opener, a slow ballad, and a crowd-pleasing closer. It's like writing for concert band, minus some instruments.

Please give my syphony a listen! Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Well... a very dull march can go like that.

If you wanna go for a true "Sousa" march, you need the following:

A Brief Opening
An opening melody, repeated (feel free to add dynamic or doublings for second time)
A contrasting melody, also repeated if you feel so
A Trio (another new melody, in a new key usually 1 flat away on the circle of 5ths)
In the Trio: a "dogfight" or competing melody that ties into a repeat of the Trio Melody.

Well yes, but I wasn't talking about a single march,. I meant a full marching band show - for a competition. That style. A march style could be cool too, though...

Thats different. And in that case, factors such as "how marchable is it?" now comes into play. Can you use formations? Frankly, unless you plan to actually use it for marching it'd be a waste of time to do that.

Agreed. The velocity is really important, as is the actual tempo. I think that the Bike Chase music from Chrono Triggger would work well.

Just wanted to throw this out there, would anyone be interested in a Final Fantasy 1 Piano Collection? I've been wanting to play pieces from Final Fantasy 1 on the piano, but they're all so simple (at least the originals are). I'd be interested to see what everyone could come up with.

Actually, a final fantasy I piano collection wouldn't be that hard to do. Most of the songs from that game have only a melody and a bass part. Just look at chaos shrine and the town theme.

That's true, but it's not exactly the way you should look at it. If arranging a piano collection was as easy as taking the melody in one hand and the bass part in the other, there would be one already.

Blobbery.

That's my point exactly. For the most part, the original pieces are simple to play, which is why I tried to elaborate on them to make them more like a piano collection, but I didn't really do that well. That's why i thought i'd mention it on the forum.

Ah now I know what you mean. I do believe that it would be an interesting project though.
