Default Viola appreciation project - 03-15-2009, 03:06 PM

It has come to my attention that violists do exist on the internet. I really am quite surprised, but I figured with the forums needing more activity, I'd put aside the shock, and, with much hope, attempt to start another arrangement project. For violists.

I'm not looking for anything complicated like a piano collections or orchestral suite here, but even just a few simple solo viola arrangements to get the ball rolling. I myself have taken recently to Dragon Quest music, and have completed six arrangements from the series, all involving the viola. I figured it would be nice to get a few other people to help out, and spread the viola love (yeah that's right, you can laugh all you want, doodz).

As for the structure of the project, I don't have any strict rules, but most preferably I would prefer each arrangement to be with a viola soloist and piano accompanyment, or even just guitar chords. The main reason for this is that a viola alone sounds quite bland when not playing anything particularly colourful, so accompanyment would be nice.

About the series or music, again, anything goes. You could do anything from Super Mario to Dragon Quest, from World of Warcraft to Pac Man, the main goal here is just to get something for the violists to play.

I've submitted my five most recent arrangements to the main site, but I'll have a new one up for an example within the next few days. I'd really appreciate it if I could get even one person to help with this;

Thanks a bunch,
-Nicol

Well...a viola solo? That sounds pretty nice, even if the viola does bore me. Hopefully, helping in this project will make the viola more interesting.

I'll start soon. Maybe a viola solo in an arrangement of Riku's Theme I've been working on.

I think we're the only violists on this site. Haha.
Need some help, Joseph?

"Next few days" was a bit far fetched; I've actually just completed my first arrangement for this project, an arrangement of the Dragon Quest IV town music. I'll attatch it to the first post; if you don't have finale or have an older version of finale than 2008, I've included a MIDI and music XML file for your convenience.

In any case, this arrangement should be a general example of the quality/difficulty level I'm looking for, but really, be free to make it as difficult or as technical as you'd like.

This project sounds interesting...not sure exactly what I could do for it but I suppose I can get involved.

I've decided to do something else other than sanctuary. I will think of it later.

I just finished Riku after I lost the data...again. I changed the viola to a cello though, so...=/

So nicol is the only one who has contributed. lol. I've been meaning to, but I have been spending my "arranging time" fixing my files and moving them over to the new system. The next thing I do will be a viola arrangement. I'm thinking something from mario.

I've been a little busy with school recently, mainly because of a falling math grade I've had to fix, and also midterms. I'm free now however, and I suppose I'll get to work on another arrangement. I'm not too sure what yet, but I'll see.

I'm also glad to hear you're up to helping with the project again, Joseph. I can't wait to see what you come up with .
