Video Game Jazz Collections -
04-28-2009, 03:42 PM
I was thinking it would be cool if we got about 10-15 different arrangers and made a special album. We could take nominations and votes on what "Classic" video game songs to include, and then the arrangers could draw lots or something in order to pick their piece to arrange. Now here's the thing. Each piece has to be a Piano Solo, Jazz arrangement!
How cool would it be to have a bunch of Jazz arrangements of famous video game themes!!! I'm sort of thinking out loud here, but I thought I might see what everybody thought about it!
If you have any questions, comments, or complaints please send me a PM!

Wrong forum. lol. Trying to arrange for jazz may scare some people. I also don't know if we really have 10-15 dedicated arrangers. lol. Its a good idea though.

LOL. I noticed I clicked the wrong link after I posted this.
Like I said, I was thinking outloud. We don't necessarily need that many arrangers, I was actually thinking more in terms of pieces.
I know Jazz arrangments scare some people! (They are quite intimidating to me as well), but I have found that it is really good arranging practice. Jazz is so personal and original that it forces the arranger to make the music "His own".

This is a great idea. I do jazz arrangements sometimes. Even for the jazz ensembles that I play in so I'd be up for it.

I think this could be pretty fun, I'll definitely give it a shot once it gets off the ground a little.

It looks like there are a few arrangers who are intersted. Maybe we should start voting on what pieces to do...maybe by nominations?

Ok...here's one to jump start this...the Mario overworld theme (if that's what people call it).

That's good, but it's kind of already jazz-ish......I don't know. It would depend on the arrangement.
