(insert bad word here) -

I've been working on Passion/Sanctuary for the longest time ever, and I was just about done. When I clicked save, some stupid error message appeared saying "We're sorry for the inconvenience, but Finale needs to close BLAH BLAH BLAH" and it closed. I went to reopen the file and it's gone. I searched everywhere. A month of hard work just gone. Stupid Finale.

That has happened to me MANY times. The worst part is that my computer pauses for about 3 seconds before it happens. I know when its coming and I get upset ahead of time. lol.

This happened to me a few times with Allegro 2007 (I've since upgraded to Finale 2008); Finale should create backup files for you by default (.BAK files) which should still exist even after this happens, which, I know from much, much painful experience.

Has happened to me as well, several times - whichis why I always save my work as 2 files.

I already checked the backup files, and IT'S ALL GONE.
I hate Finale. I think.

That used to happen to me a lot when i would try to insert articulations. whenever i tried to play a piece with any articulations, it would freeze for a few seconds and shut down. Drove me crazy...

Oddly enough, for me it only happened when I inserted a roll, and only crashed the first time I tried. After opening the backup file and using that I could put in as many as I'd like, and the program wouldn't kick up at all. Finale 2008 sometimes crashes when I insert rolls as well, for whatever reason, now, however, it doesn't delete my files .

lol, yeah, mine started out with just rolls. I was trying to arrange Aeris' theme for one of the contests and i started arranging really late (due to homework ). everytime i inserted a rolled chord the program would crash. It caused me a great deal of grief, and i have since been hesitant to add any rolled chords...

Indeed. I've gotten into the habit of saving after every change I make; on average I save around 5 times a minute (no, seriously). I don't just do this with Finale, though; a friend of mine remarked in my comp. science class last semester that he'd watched me save my program 4-5 times within a few seconds, only to revert my script back to the way it originally was. It's not really a bad habit though, I'm really quite glad I do it .
