Question Requesting music similar to FFX? - 08-19-2009, 10:38 AM

Hi, I really enjoy the FFX Original Sound sheet music book, specifically songs like "To Zanarkand, Yuna's theme, and "Suteki da Ne". I'd like to know who composed these songs in particular, (since I can't read japanese) it must be either Uematsu or Hamauzu, but I don't know which one.

Also, I would like some suggestions about similar video game music books based on the above preferences?

(I've listened to some previous FF music, and didn't like it all that much, for example FF7 had some nice songs, but the main theme was too slow, and others too dissonant. FF6 has a nice main theme, but everything else is too dissonant (like the battle theme) or too forgettable.)

So I think it might be Hamauzu that I prefer, but I don't know...please help.

Well, three composers worked on FFX. Uematsu did the majority of the work. Hamauzu did a small portion, and Nakano did like four pieces. All the ones that you mentioned liking were Uematsu's pieces. His pieces for FFX were a throwback in style to pieces from games such as FFI-IV, as well as some nods to both VIII and IX. You might enjoy the Kingdom Hearts II Piano Solo book. Also, you might try getting some of Joe Hisaishi's work for the Studio Ghibli films. There are several different books available from Otaku.com Welcome! or you can probably ask Tim to special order them.

Hmm...thanks for the reply, an the suggestions; that Otaku site looks promising. Oh and while I'm at it, do you or anyone else know if there are any Atelier Iris music books? (I just finished the 4th one, Mana Khemia, and was impressed by the unique sound)

Hmmm....the name sounds familiar, but I can't place it. Try googling it.

Anyways, I thought of some good tracks that you might try playing.

Tina's Theme (AKA Terra's Theme from Final Fantasy VI), Theme of Love (FFIV), Eyes On Me (FFVIII), What Are You? (Lost Odyssey), Lazy Afternoons (Kingdom Hearts 2), Waterside (Blue Dragon), The Great Sea (TLOZ: The Wind Waker), Title Screen (TLOZ: Ocarina of Time), Ending Theme from Majora's Mask (It has an AWSOME jazz section). Look into the works of Koji Kondo, Dave Wise, Motoi Sakuraba, and Junichi Masuda.
