Your heritage -
03-17-2009, 05:51 PM
So, we have a very diverse community here at Squaresound, ranging from Caucasians to Mexicans (I think). I don't know much about the customs of Canadians, Indonesians, even Chinese. I want to know more about it, and instead of a Google search which gives data written by a robot, I want a person of that actual race to tell me about their heritage.
I mean, cmon, I search Filipino, and it's a Caucasian explaining about them (I DO NOT have anything against Caucasians =D) and they pronounce our language as Tag-a-log. You know, the game tag, plus a (short), plus log. It's pronounced tuh-gah-lug. Ughh =) And they don't even know what lumpia is.
Haha, so I'll start this off. I'm Filipino, of course. I don't know much about my heritage. I sorta feel left out, cause half of my cousins were born and raised in the Philippines, and I was born and raised in the States, so I kinda got robbed of my heritage. I speak fluent TAGALOG, though, but I don't know much about my heritage. Much of what I know is that we have more than 12 Days of Christmas. Christmas week in the Philippines makes the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade look like an anthill. Church goes on 24/7, there are a whole bunch of celebrations, karaoke (we love karaoke), all our unique food...yummy. I got the chance to spend both Christmas and New Years in the Philippines. New Years was hectic. Since fireworks are LEGAL in the Philippines, the whole sky was filled with fuejos artificiales. It was crazy; I inhaled a lot of smoke.
I hope someone here knows what lumpia is. It's an EGGROLL. It's really good, better than Chinese eggrolls, not that I have anything against China (I love sushi. Wait, that's Japanese). Filipinos are supposed to be musically talented, and there are many musicians there. Uhh...I'll post more later, but tell us about your heritage!

My heritage is mostly Scottish and Irish. My family has lived in America since the 1800s however. I do have a book that is my family's history from about 1200 up. I haven't read the whole thing, but I do know that somewhere in my past I am related to Scottish and Irish (and Swedish somewhere) royalty. There are three castles that my family owned. there is one castle in Scotland that even has my last name as it's name!
I'm really an American Mutt. While about 85% of my heritage is from the British Isles I do have a little bit of Native American and Scandinavian. I actually have a cousin who lives in Norway, and another cousin in England.
LOL! Ironic that I'm posting this on St. Patrick's Day! I can play the Irish Tin Flute. I'm actually working on an arrangement of the Final Fantasy Prelude for Piano and Tin Flute. I LOVE Celtic music. Everybody loves a good Irish Jig, right?!?!
[EDIT] - On that note. My native lannguage is obviously American English. Although I can speak some Japanese. That has been my foreign language course for the past two years. I'm not fluent, but I know enough to pick out some stuff in a conversation. Not much though. I'm working on becoming both verbally and literatly fluent.
If you have any questions, comments, or complaints please send me a PM!

I come from a family of Finnish and a family of Lebanese, though I was born and raised in Canada. I've never really been anywhere outside of Canada so I can't comment to it in relation to anywhere else, but I've had American people tell me "it's basically America Jr.", which I'd wager is a pretty accurate description. Also contrary to popular belief, Canada is not a country of endless winter - even the territories see some hot summer weather for a month or two.
Being Canadian I speak fluent English, along with a decent understanding of French - enough to get me around, but I couldn't hold an extended conversation with a native French speaker.

I really should look into this...I'm Caucasian, but I don't know where my ancestors lived, for the most part. I do know from a family tree book that my dad's mother's mother's mother's father's family, the Rehbergs, came from Greece. That's 1/32, if I did the math correctly.

I'm 100% Scandinavian - Danish as far back as can be traced on my father's side, and 1/4 Swedish on my mother's side (who's otherwise also Danish). Viking ancestry.

Isn't Scandinavia where the Vikings came from? My friend said she was part Viking...I just laughed.
