Default Hee Hee! I'm so lucky right now! - 07-23-2009, 09:51 AM

*Dances* w000t!

I just got the full version of Finale 2010, including Aria, Contakt 2, and Garritan...for free!!!! My teacher just bought the Teacher bundle and it allows her to let students load it on their computers! So as soon as I set it up, I'll be able to make my sheets look and sound much more professional!!!

That's good to hear ! I'm still using 2008 myself, it'll take awhile before I can muster the expenses for the newer version of Finale.

A word of advice for us lowly pre-2010 users: if you save your files as music XML, people with older version will still be able to view your arrangements (and users on other programs such as Sibelius, as well, I believe). I look forward to seeing what you can produce with 2010 !

Regarding this, I have Sibelius 5 and I tried to open Kiamet's arrangement of the Bhjurba piece, but it didn't work (bummer)! He said he had Sibelius 6 - does that mean I can't open the file?

Yes. Forward compatibility is quite rare, especially in these types of proprietary programs. Most (if not all) notation programs, however, can export and import music XML files, which are not bound by software versions, so they can allow older versions of a program to play music made in newer ones. I've started to include the music XML files with my arrangements for this purpose.

Yea, It would probably be good to include XML as well as the actual music file. I'm going to start including an audio file as well. I got my new Finale and Garritan set up......it's awsome! Garritan sounds really good.

Wow, that's pretty cool, dude. I just bought 2009 about a month ago. I noticed that it was the exact same thing as 2007 when it was free.....
