Exclamation A Few Finale Notepad Questions - 12-13-2007, 06:37 PM

Hey everyone! I was hoping if some of you could answer some questions I have about the Finale Notepad.

1. How do I get a copyright mark on my music?
2. Sometimes when I open the program the rests aren't there. Why is that?
3. How do I insert certain words to make the music played a certain way? For example: "With Swing" "Mysterioso"
4. How do I make a certain font for the title?

If any of you have the time to answer my questions I'd really qppreciate it! Thank you so much.

1. Use the text tool. But, even if you write that on there, you need to register the work for a license before it is technically copyrighted.
2. The program often closes some toolbars automatically; just right click the toolbar tray and click "Quick Rests Toolbar", or whatever.
3. Use the text tool.
4. I don't believe Finale Notepad has this feature, but in other finale products, you can achieve this by selecting the title with the text tool, and then clicking a certain option in one of the top menus.

Another question about finale notepad: how do you change the time signature and tempo in the middle of a song?

In my experience with Notepad, you can't change the time signature or the tempo. This was the cause of much grief for me in high school. I have Finale 2004 now, which will easily do those things. I think you'll have to upgrade to a full version in order to use those features.

You can't make Notepad do that. In better versions of Finale (Allegro, Finale), you can use the expression tool (the button with the mezzo forte symbol on it) to insert expressions that you want. The text tool will just insert, well, plain text.

Once again, Notepad won't do that for you.

Finale is pretty exensive, but it does include every feature of the software. Songwriter on the other hand, includes more useful features than notepad at a much more reasonable price than Finale. Though, I would suggest buying either Print Music or Allegro if you need a few extra features.
