Pretty much anything except for Rap, Country, and Death/Black Metal. I listen to some classic heavy metal like Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc. I do like 80s Hair Metal though. Bands like Van Halen, White Snake, Guns N' Roses, etc. I listen to ALL kinds of instrumental music. Everything from Baroque Chamber to modern Carribean Ensemble! I'm a big fan of Ethnic Musics. I like Celtic, Latin, Asian, etc.

Like many others here, I absolutely, extremely, no-doubt-think-it's-the-most-biggest waste-of-music, strongly dislike rap.
But I enjoy some pop, rock, classical rock, not really heavy metal, but I do ike DragonForce, mostly because their songs aren't about girls and you-know-what.
I also enjoy some orchestral music, and more of the classical, older time music, but not those "hip" songs my parents listen to... like spiritually lifting songs. Does that make sense?
The only reason I strogly dislike rap is because there's not much musical talent in the song: anyone can do it really, and it all sounds the same.

Believe me, us musicians can't possibly understand the appeal of rap. Although hard to comprehend, some people actually enjoy listening to bad music. It's weird, but it's true. Some people don't like music that sounds good, and listen to music for other reasons than purely what sounds good. I don't even fully understand it. I just know it's really, really stupid.

Well, if we all liked the same things the world would be pretty boring....but still, rap just doesn't do it for me. The only rap song I have ever liked was the Fresh Prince Theme song.

Well yeah, but RAP isn't "different". It's just uber-simplifying a basic syncopated style with some sub-par 3rd grade poetry. That's not a matter of liking a difference genre, that's literally liking music that is inferior to other music. Some people just like really simplistic, uninteresting things.

I don't find rap to be particularly appealing, but it's as legitimate a genre as any other genre is, especially if they mix their own beats and write their own lyrics.

My favorite genres besides VGM are J-music (Japanese pop and rock) and Power Metal. I don't really like local pop, and a lot of J-pop have very unique styles, though there is also the typical cliched J-pop but there is a lot of music of japanese origin that is definitely different, and different is gooooooooooooooooooood~ xD My love for power metal is probably due to my liking to epicness cultivated by videogames and their music.
I also dislike Rap, BTW. Maybe old-school rap CAN be appreciated, but nowadays rap is nothing but dumb lyrics and 5-second loops throughout the whoooole song. There ARE a few different rap songs, in a ratio of 1/99999999. However there are some rap-ish japanese songs that I truly like, specially 'cuz the most popular music in japan tends to be very happy. If all rap here was like "Thank You" by Home Made Kazoku, for example, I'd listen to it. It's a very happy and shiny rap song which talks about thankfulness to your friends =D

LOL. Thank You is actually pretty good. Nobuo Uematsu has written some rap, and I like that.
