Post Finale vs. Sibelius vs. Noteworthy Composer - 03-09-2008, 01:13 PM

Out of these three programs I have used Finale the most often (merely because the university has 2007 which I get to use. Though I recently started looking into Sibelius and have fallen in love with the program. Anything that was difficult in Finale is easy in Sibelius. That and it has the most awesome opening music when the program starts.

I was never too impressed with Noteworthy composer though. I have never extensively used it though either.

I've used and almost equally enjoyed all three programs, as they each have things they're better with than the others. I find noteworthy provides the most accurate MIDIs, and it also has very easily customizable sheet music options (for printing, of course). Finale is just very balanced, and I love the simplicity of it's simple entry, it also supports a ton of other features. Sibelius, I find, is very good at creating sheet music. It has pretty good MIDI support as well, but I love how customizable you can make the sheets, it also has a lot of options for this that I have trouble with in finale. Though, I still prefer Finale the most.

Blobbery.

Finale, without doubt.

I have the latest versions of Sibelius and Finale, and while Finale is at first sight a bit less obvious, its far more simple than sibelius. Besides, sibelius is a headache at putting rests.
But this is just my opinion, I'm sure there's people who think otherwise.

I agree with that so much, such a pain.

Finale is my favorite to use out of all of the above, although Sibelius has got some cracking features. Not a big of Noteworthy, don't enjoy using it really :/

You do know that the opening start music is quote from Sibelius' music right?

Default Tough Decision - 08-19-2008, 10:13 AM

I use Sibelius at school, but Finale at home, but I think Sibelius is great for big projects and arrangements. Finale Notepad limits how many instruments you can put.

Also, Sibelius is REALLY expensive, even for the student version, so I use Finale Notepad.

Overall, it depends on what you want to do.

Finale. The best. Hands down. Except when a STUPID ERROR DELETES MY ARRANGEMENTS AND MAKES ME START OVER AGAIN.

Sibelius is definitely more expensive, but ignoring price and focusing solely on quality, it's definitely the best, especially with the Sibelius Sounds. I got them and haven't gone back since

I've always been a Sibelius user and have never been disappointed.
I'm actually kind of glad that the midi sounds terrible (without using Sibelius Essentials in Sib 6)
because the closer it tries to imitate the instruments, the more deceptive it is to the actual timbre and sound that you will get out of the instruments.
