Default Favourite Key - 04-03-2009, 04:16 AM

I don't know about you guys, but whenever I initially start writing an arrangement, I always seem to gravitate towards a certain key instinctively.

Do you have any keys which you prefer over others?

Ummm, I think I always do it in the original key of the piece. But if I feel it calls for a different key then I may change it.

My favorite key would have to be one of the flat keys, probably Gb.

For arranging, I like to stay with the original. One of my favorite keys is Db

I wasn't going to say this but...it seems that probably my favorite key to compose in is Db.

C sharp is not very commonly used as it requires every key of the diatonic scale to become sharp, whereas in D flat you still have two natural tones, making it a lot friendlier to read.

Personally I prefer E minor/G major and F minor/Ab major.

Blobbery.

Yeah that's the way to look at it. I'm a brass player and I prefer flats over sharps by far haha.

I understand but I was merely saying that they are basically the same thing since they are enharmonic.

But I can see where you're coming from, I agree having two natural tones is easier to read.
