      Is that, when you hear a chord/chord progression so often, you get used to it then you can recognize it very easy after a while.You can easily tell if a guitar or bass is tuned down a half just by the sound of it..

      Try and develop a memory for the music you want to play, and figure out where you need to start, extending each time from the start point. At one stage you'll find out you're pretty much carrying along on your own.

      I guess the best thing to do would just be keep practicing with slower pieces, and gradually work your way onto faster ones. Also, try familiarizing yourself with various scales, modes, keys and chord progressions. This will help immensely when trying to pick out a melody or phrase
