PM Spam

This stuff's getting out of hand...it seems like once every week or two, I get private message spam from accounts that haven't even posted. I realize that they're bots, or something...is there any way to stop them? I don't know anything about how to fix the problem, but if somebody does it'd be greatly appreciated. Do you know anything about it, Tim?

Sorry about this, I wasn't aware it was a problem because I (predictably) wasn't receiving any PMs. We get like 100 new spam accounts that register every day and though they can't post because of the rules I set up, I wasn't aware they could still PM. I've purged all these accounts and changed the permissions so only registered users can send PMs. That should take care of that. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I find it wonderfully ironic that a spam bot should spam a thread regarding the removal of spam.

Like Tim said, I wasn't aware that they could PM either. I knew that spam accounts were getting pretty prolific lately. I've been banning about five accounts a week that slip through. Unfortunately, I only had knowledge of those accounts that posted on an actual thread. Most spam accounts are predictable by their name. Most of the account names are just numbers, or a company/product name, or just a bunch of gibberish. If anyone receives any more spam PM, just give the username to either me, Tim, or Ronin, and we can delete the user.
