last I read, they (SquareEnix) just redid the opening movie to show off the power of the system, and no remake of VII is being planned at the moment.

I hope they will never do a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Remakes are usually worse than originals and FFVII is great as it is.

I think there's a thread talking about this elsewhere, but they don't really need to change a lot. "Remake" could also just mean introducing better graphics and perhaps adding a few more bosses, areas, and some more equipment. They don't need to change the entire fighting system or story.

I agree, maybe if they even put in a few extra side quests(not like you need them or anything) but besides the graphics thats all they should do.

There have been a lot of remakes that, in my opinion, are very good. Final Fantasy III and IV DS are both excellent! The whole Final Fantasy Advance series was a win in general, and there are plenty others that are well worth the time and money. I think that remakes shouldn't be made to re-invent the game, but rather present the game in a new perspective. Such as that of an Extended Cut DVD.
