Biography

Written by Ronin

Born in Beijing, China, Faye Wong took singing lessons at an early age. After moving to Hong Kong to continue her studies of the vocal techniques she knew, her teacher recommended her to one of the producers in the area. He thought that she had a lot of talent, and in 1989 she released her first album entitled "Shirley Wong."

From there, Faye became more and more well known in the Chinese music scene, with her style being quite different to other singers around at the time. However, it wasn't until 1994 that she released her first Mandarin album entitled "Mystery."

However, when she was approached by Nobuo Uematsu to sing the first ever vocal song heard in a Final Fantasy game, she probably could not have realised how famous she would become.

Since then, Faye has had continued success, and by 2000, it was recorded that she had sold 9.7 million albums, making her the biggest selling cantonese female artist in history.
